Leadership

Professional Development with Dr. Steven Katz

On Wednesday February 20, Administrative Council,

Elementary and Secondary Principals and Program Teams

had the opportunity to work with Dr. Steven Katz - a

permanent faculty member in Human Development and

Applied Psychology at the Ontario Institute for Studies in

Education (OISE) of the University of Toronto. He has a

doctorate in human development and applied psychology,

with a specialization in applied cognitive science.

Dr. Katz facilitated a session on Professional Learning to

assist ADSB system leaders continue to move our thinking

and learning forward in this area.  His focus allowed the

group to gain a deeper understanding of how rethinking

Professional Learning can lead to the development of a

real and sustainable learning culture in our schools.

Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) are powerful

learning opportunities for all participants.  They provide teachers with an opportunity to share and harmonize their

practices and discuss their students and data. These meetings reinforce teamwork, cooperation, and collaborative

inquiry.

Dr. Katz returned to the Algoma District a number of times this year to continue the conversation with Administrative

Council and our Principals and Vice-Principals.
