EQAO Write Up

The Algoma District School Board saw the number of Grade 3 students achieving Levels 3 & 4 is at 58% in Reading; at 63% in Writing; and at 62% in Math. This compares to Provincial results which showed the Province achieving 68% in Reading; 77% in Writing; and 67% in Math. 

 

In Grade 6 the number of ADSB students achieving Levels 3 & 4 is at 68% in Reading; at 62% in Writing; and at 45% in Mathematics.  This compares to Provincial results which showed the Province achieving 77% in Reading; 76% in Writing; and 57% in Math.

 

Areas that ADSB saw increases were in the cohort results for Reading and Writing.  In 2010, we had 55% of Grade 3 students achieving Levels 3 & 4.  Three years later this group of students, now in Grade 6 have improved by 13% with 68% achieving Levels 3 & 4 in Grade 6 Reading.  

 

In 2010, we saw 59% of Grade 3 ADSB students achieving Levels 3 & 4 in Writing.  Three years later this group of students, now in Grade 6, has improved by 3% with 62% achieving Levels 3 & 4 in Grade 6 Writing. 

 

Recent media reporting has placed significant attention on the decline in math scores across the province.  The Algoma District School Board, as with many other school boards, showed a similar decrease as the province in math results.

Grade 9 EQAO Math Assessment for 2012/2013

Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics results were also released by EQAO, for testing administered during the 2012/2013 school year.

 

Improvement was demonstrated by ADSB students enrolled in academic level math with 75% of students achieving at or above provincial standard, up by 1% from last year.  The percentage of ADSB students enrolled in applied level math achieving at or above the provincial standard was 44%, a decline of 4%.

 

Provincial results for students enrolled in both academic and applied math remained unchanged at 84% in academic and 44% in applied.

Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) Results for 2012/2013

The percentage of Grade 10 ADSB students who were successful on the OSSLT was 73%.  The provincial results remained unchanged at 82%. Secondary schools in the ADSB will continue to focus on integrating reading and writing skills across the curriculum.

 

EQAO for FNMI Students 

Over the past number of years ADSB began tracking EQAO results for our FNMI students. Over time (since 2006/07), we have seen increases at almost all levels (Grade 3 and Grade 6 reading, writing and math and in Grade 9 Academic and Applied Math).  As an example, in Grade 3 writing, 42% of FNMI students reached a Level 3 in 07/08.  In 2010/11, 71% of FNMI students reached a Level 3, an increase of 29%.  In Grade 6 Reading in 2006/07 34% of FNMI students reached a Level 3, while in 2011/2012 60% of FNMI students reached a Level 3, an increase of 31%.
