2013 Director's Annual Report
Defining Our Direction
Chair's Message
Jennifer Sarlo
The past year has been an exciting and challenging one and I have enjoyed learning
throughout the process as I continue to grow in my role as chair. I am proud of our
team of trustees who serve the board with dedication and passion for our students
collectively and individually. Many have dedicated numerous years of service to our
board and I appreciate their wisdom, knowledge and insight.
As a board we are proud to offer programs designed to equip students with the
knowledge and skills they will need to lead satisfying and productive lives in the
21st century. It is our desire to have students who enter our doorways exit them as
independent, productive and responsible members of society.
We have spent the last year creating and honing our new mission, vision and
strategic priorities and we are excited to roll that out. This dynamic multi-year
strategic plan will guide our direction in the next three to five years.
As our school communities become more diverse we must be vigilant in our desire to engage parents and community partners in our schools. We cannot address the issues of poverty, drugs, bullying, safe and equitable schools and mental health issues without these partnerships. As the former chair of the Parent Involvement Committee (PIC), I understand the time and commitment that it requires to become involved in your child’s school. I also understand what an integral role you - our parents, volunteers and community partners - play within our school communities and I thank you for your time, talents and generosity.
I want to acknowledge the many generous acts of kindness that our staff and students engage in throughout any given year. Collectively, we all strive to practically emulate the character attributes we espouse.
As a leading learner, I look forward to continuing to work alongside Director Lucia Reece and our strong Senior Administration team as I continue to represent the Algoma District School Board in our communities and province as we strive together to build confident learners and caring citizens.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Sarlo
