An Educational Pilot Program has been introduced by Algoma District School Board   (ADSB).  This program is for young parents aged 14 to 19 years of age and is running at Etienne Brule Public School currently as a one-year pilot.

All learning occurs under the supervision and support of teacher, Rachel Reiter-Schoahs.

Students spend two days per week participating in the Etienne Brule Parenting and Family Literacy Centre (PFLC) community with their preschoolers. The sessions, along with the preparation of snacks and lunches, good attendance and participation, lead to credits in parenting, food and nutrition and life skills.

One day per week is spent as a group with the dedicated teacher to work together and consolidate learning. Two days per week is spent working one-on-one with a teacher on compulsory courses via independent study courses or eLearning. Application has been made for a dual credit (college/high school) to be delivered on site by Sault College. There is on-site child minding when moms are working on their compulsory credits and programming will include a number of enrichment activities and field trips.

There is potential for a student to earn up to 11 credits, depending on their attendance and participation.
